About the Author
As a young girl, Vanessa learned that hard work, commitment and dedication were the keys to moving out of poverty and into the authentic life she desired. Though she lacked basic necessities like clothing and food at a young age, her creativity and resourcefulness prevailed. At the age of ten she became the neighborhood entrepreneur, selling greeting cards and candy, mowing lawns, walking dogs, washing cars, cleaning houses and caring for neighborhood children.
Life at home was rough living with a mentally unstable and drug addicted step-father. She and her siblings were verbally abused and terrorized while their mother was physically abused and threatened that “if she ever left” she would pay with her life. This unimaginable existence was Vanessa’s day-to-day life from childhood through adolescence.
During this time, Vanessa was living with a mentally unstable & drug addicted step-father. She and her siblings were verbally abused and terrorized by this person, who also physically abused her mother and threatened her mother’s life “if she ever left him.” The abuse continued until Vanessawas in high school.
As a young adult Vanessa became increasingly angry and resentful toward the world. Her relationship with others and herself reflected the inner rage she battled as consequence of her abuse. Despite her hurt and anger, she continued to hope for a better life. Her tenacity and survival instincts kept her moving forward, while a deep rooted faith in authentic self-empowerment gave her hope that one day she would find a way to transform her inner misery into peace.
After finishing high school, Vanessa supported herself through college and graduated with a BA in Business. She then completed her Master’s Degree in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica. Her commitment to teaching others about the value of self-worth and acceptance drove her to continue in her education, earning her certifications as a Life Coach, an Eastern Holistic Healer, a Matrix Energetics Practitioner and a 500-Hour Trained Yoga Instructor.
Through her diligence and tireless hope in the human capacity to prevail even in the worst of circumstances, Vanessa has dedicated the past 20 years of her life to heal from past traumas and embrace the life-changing opportunity we are all given to not only live a more joy-filled life, but to also abundantly thrive in the life we are given.
Vanessa’s deep rooted belief in the ability of self-love to transform lives has led her to share her valuable life lessons in a number of books she hopes will encourage others to embrace their own journey of self-discovery and healing. Her positive outlook and innate abilities to empathize and love have helped many people learn how to live an inspiring, satisfying and more purpose-filled life. An engagingly heart-felt author and speaker, she specializes in working with corporate executives and teams on the “soft or intangible connection skills.”
She lives in Southern California with her husband of 20 years, their two children and the family’s German Shephard Freddy.
Throughout my life, I’ve learned that the more loving I am toward myself, the more loving I am with others. This happens because LOVE is our natural state of being. The more we allow it to come out, the more it presents itself. When we love ourselves, we love others. When we love others, we love ourselves. We are mirrors and reflections of one another.
